The Religious Right is a threat to us all, not just women.

The State of Virginia is on the verge of passing a law that will enact what is in effect state sponsored rape: http://www.slate.com/articles/double_x/doublex/2012/02/virginia_ultrasound_law_women_who_want_an_abortion_will_be_forcibly_penetrated_for_no_medical_reason.html

A bill passed recently by the House of Delegates and now awaiting the signature of the conservative republican Gov., Bob McDonnell, will require women seeking an abortion to first undergo a “trans-vaginal” ultrasound. This is basically a device that is inserted into a woman’s vagina in order to take a ultra sound reading of the fetus.  Under the proposed new law, this procedure would be required for women seeking an abortion in the first twelve weeks. Women will be forced to undergo this. I think the usual definition of rape is penetrating someone against their will.

This is more of the fruits of religious conservatives. They, and only they, are the ones who are pushing and sponsoring such legislation (such as the absurd “personhood” amendment crap which is popping up all over the place). They believe life begins at conception. Fine. The problem is that they want everyone to believe the same thing. Not fine.

Like contraception, I really don’t care about abortion. Yes, it is an ugly thing. I would not anyone to go through that. As a man who has enjoyed women, I thank God I have never been in situation where I had to confront that with anyone. But it is a part of life. Women get pregnant. They seek abortions to undo the pregnancy. There is nothing pretty about it. It has been going on for thousand of years. It will go on until the end of time. This piece of legislation will do nothing to stop that. It exists simply to humiliate the woman.

What I find amusing about the religious anti-abortion crusaders is this. Most of the religious crusaders against abortion are white, middle class people who fantasize about living in a white, middle class world which is perfect and spotless. Just look at any anti-abortion protest to see this. These people generally do not like Blacks or Hispanics, and would probably wish most would simply go away. When you see them at anti-abortion protests, they are usually carrying signs with images of nice, cute, cherubic white babies, saying something like, “Please don’t abort me, Mommy!!!” And yet most abortions in this country are by Black and Hispanic women, the very same minorities most of these white, middle class people fear, dislike and do their best to generally avoid. Don’t they understand, that by keeping the abortion rates up they reduce the number of the very people they do not want to see around in the first place? The continued existence of abortion would keep America more white, more in line with the Pat Buchanan vision of what America should be, the vision and dream they fantasize about. It is an ugly fact, but it is a fact nonetheless.

So once again, the religious right show themselves to be one of the biggest group of hypocrites around. They don’t give a damn about the unborn children, they just want to control everyone else, in the name of God and “family values”. Once the kid is born, they would probably want to deport it or let it live in poverty, after they have dismantled all the federal welfare programs they despise, the same programs which exist in part to help the very same unborn children they are so zealous about. So much of their agenda is not even really about abortion, rather, it is about controlling everyone else in the religious theocracy they desire to impose on the world. It is about returning America to the pristine golden age of the early 1950′s, when everyone and everything was pure, when chaste women baked cookies for their children every day, when family values ruled. It was truly a blessed time.

Venus, the goddess of sex and love. At least the Pagans were not so uptight about like sex like so many Christians are.

My association with certain forms of Christianity is quickly unraveling at breakneck speed. As the Virginia situation reflects, many of these groups and movements are  starting to become unbearable. I simply do not believe or think as they do. As I once wrote, I really may have to go back to worshiping the ancient Greek and Roman Olympian Gods. I am already half way there at this point. At least they were not uptight about sexual pleasure, they encouraged it as a matter of fact, and they did not give a fuck about abortion either.

And for those of you who think this only applies to women, just remember, once the religious right gets through with the issue of abortion, they will coming after you, to ban and prohibit and criminalize whatever they deem a threat to family values and God’s law, whatever they deem as contrary to the Bible, regardless of your rights and liberties.
